Building Bill Proposes Housing Grants of Up to Rs 75,000 for Poor Citizens

The Ministry of Infrastructure Development has registered the Building Bill, 2083, at the Federal Parliament Secretariat, proposing housing grants of up to Rs 75,000 for poor and destitute citizens. The bill seeks to amend the Building Act, 2055.

Under the proposal, the federal government would provide Rs 50,000, while provincial governments would contribute Rs 25,000 toward the grant. The bill was registered in Kathmandu on October 3, 2026.

Proposed housing grant

The proposed assistance would be divided between the two levels of government:

  • Federal government: Rs 50,000
  • Provincial governments: Rs 25,000
  • Total proposed grant: Up to Rs 75,000
