Bhojpur Farmer Keeps Traditional Bamboo Doko Weaving Skill Alive

Kritiman Bista, a farmer from Bhojpur Municipality-5 in Bhojpur, is working to preserve the traditional skill of weaving bamboo doko baskets. He continues the generations-old craft in his spare time away from farming.

Bista makes the baskets from bamboo choya, keeping a traditional practice alive as the use of doko for agricultural and household work in villages has declined sharply.

Traditional doko weaving in Bhojpur

Doko baskets have traditionally been used for farm and household tasks in villages. However, modern materials available in the market have reduced their use.

By continuing to weave baskets alongside his farming work, Bista is preserving a skill passed down through generations.
