Australia will provide an additional 15 million Australian dollars in grant assistance to support relief, recovery and reconstruction in areas affected by Nepal’s recent devastating floods, Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal announced on Saturday.
Khanal shared the information with journalists at Tribhuvan International Airport after returning from an official visit to Australia. The announcement followed talks with Australian Foreign Minister Wong.
Australia expresses solidarity with Nepal
During the discussions, Wong expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and property caused by the floods. She also conveyed the solidarity of the Australian government and people with Nepal.
The additional grant is intended to support relief, recovery and reconstruction in flood-affected areas. No further details about how the assistance will be allocated were announced.
Khanal’s visit included climate discussions
Khanal travelled to Australia alongside his participation in a high-level pre-COP leaders’ event on climate change held in Fiji and Tuvalu.
The announcement comes as Nepal continues to address the impacts of the recent floods.
