Aren Rai, general secretary of the Shram Sanskriti Party, praised the Nepali Congress’s history and contribution to democracy at the opening ceremony of the party’s 15th convention in Kathmandu. Workers at the open venue heckled him after his remarks.
Rai said the Nepali Congress was built through long struggle and sacrifice, not rumours. He credited the party with playing a major role in establishing democracy and civil liberties in Nepal.
Rai calls for competition in public service
Rai said political parties should compete over which can serve the people better, rather than over how long they can remain in power.
His remarks were followed by heckling from workers at the venue.
