Writ Seeks Accessible Voting System for Disabled Voters in Nepal

A writ petition has been filed in Nepal’s Supreme Court seeking a technology-based voting system that would enable visually impaired people and other voters with disabilities to identify their chosen candidates and cast their ballots independently and secretly.

The petition asks that the accessible system be implemented from the upcoming election. The court has issued a show-cause order to the defendants named in the case.

The petition was filed by Navina Gyawali, chairperson of Sath, and Nirmala Gyawali on behalf of the Blind Welfare Association.
