Tourist Arrivals Rebound on Annapurna Circuit After Weather Disruptions

Tourist arrivals on the Annapurna Circuit trekking route have begun rising again after floods, landslides, rain and snowfall disrupted travel, with 1,447 visitors recorded at the Tourist Check and Information Centre in Dharapani between Asoj 18 and 25. The centre, operated by the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), recorded 887 men and 560 women during the period. Access towards Thorong La Pass has become easier after snow was cleared from the route.

Visitor numbers recover after disruption

The latest count signals a renewed flow of trekkers on the circuit following a period when difficult weather affected movement along roads and trails. The recorded arrivals comprised about 61 per cent men and 39 per cent women. These figures represent the visitors registered at Dharapani during the stated eight-day period; they do not provide a comparison with an earlier period or a total for the trekking season.

The increase comes after arrivals fell during continuous rain and snowfall from Asoj 8 to 11. The weather conditions blocked roads and trails, interrupting access along the route. Floods and landslides were also among the disruptions affecting travel. Together, the closures made it harder for visitors to continue along the trekking route and coincided with the drop in arrivals.

Route to Thorong La Pass becomes easier

Conditions have since improved on the route towards Thorong La Pass after snow was cleared. The change has made travel along that section easier, according to the information reported by the centre. The route’s improved accessibility offers a contrast with the earlier period when snowfall and other weather impacts had obstructed movement.

The update indicates that the recovery in visitor numbers has followed a change in access conditions, although the available figures do not specify how many trekkers continued to the pass or when every affected road and trail reopened. The reported count provides a snapshot of registrations at Dharapani, while the route update describes the current improvement towards Thorong La.

Dharapani count offers a measure of the rebound

Dharapani’s Tourist Check and Information Centre recorded 1,447 visitors from Asoj 18 through Asoj 25. Of that total, 887 were men and 560 were women. The figures show arrivals returning after the weather-related interruption, but no earlier count is provided to measure the size of the increase.

For trekkers, the key development reported is that the route towards Thorong La Pass has become easier following snow clearance. The earlier disruption, which included blocked roads and trails during continuous rain and snowfall from Asoj 8 to 11, had affected arrivals on the circuit. The latest registration figures point to renewed movement, while the update does not provide a forecast for future arrivals or further details about conditions elsewhere on the route.
