Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rabinraj Karnajit of the Armed Police Force has urged the government to adopt a policy barring settlements below the flood line when rebuilding communities affected by floods and landslides.
Karnajit made the suggestion on Friday at a meeting of the Parliamentary Special Committee on the Impact of Climate Change in the Himalayas, Climate Justice and the Bhote Koshi-Trishuli disaster. The meeting was held at Singha Durbar in Kathmandu and reported on 23 Ashoj.
Policy on rebuilding flood-affected communities
Karnajit’s proposal was to prevent settlements from being rebuilt below the flood line as authorities work to rebuild communities affected by floods and landslides. He called on the government to establish a policy to guide that process.
