Nepal’s stock market extended its decline on Tuesday, with the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index falling 9.62 points to close at 2,603.71. The drop followed a 16.47-point fall on Monday, when the index settled at 2,613.33.
Trading was halted on September 21 because of a technical glitch. The disruption raised concerns about systemic risks in the market, according to reporting by Ratopati.
NEPSE extends recent losses
The latest two-session decline followed a volatile stretch for the benchmark index. Earlier in the week, NEPSE had gained 7.06 points to reach 2,654.28. The recent losses add to market fluctuations also reflected in coverage of a two-day NEPSE decline.
The previous week, the index dropped 17.41 points. The decline was associated with concerns about possible rainfall damage following the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli floods, and investors lost Rs 29.9 billion.
Earlier policy plan lifted sentiment
Market sentiment had improved earlier after Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle introduced the Capital Market Strengthening and Revival Action Plan, 2026. NEPSE rose 48.57 points on September 15 following the announcement.
The latest losses and trading interruption have renewed attention on the market’s volatility and the risks posed by technical disruptions.
