Nepal to Miss SAFF Championship for First Time After FIFA Suspension

Nepal will miss the SAFF Championship for the first time in the tournament’s history after the FIFA suspension on the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) was not lifted by the deadline set for the country’s participation.

The South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) had given Nepal until September 30 to have the suspension revoked so the national team could compete in the 15th SAFF Championship, which is scheduled to be held in Bangladesh. With the deadline passing and the ban still in place, Nepal’s participation has been ruled out.

Nepal ruled out of the 15th SAFF Championship

The missed deadline means Nepal will not take part in the upcoming championship. The tournament will be the first SAFF Championship in the country’s history to go ahead without Nepal’s participation.

SAFF had set the September 30 cutoff as the final opportunity for the suspension to be lifted and Nepal to remain eligible for the competition. As that did not happen, the team will miss the tournament in Bangladesh.
