The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has decided to sell 86 megawatts of surplus electricity to India during the rainy season, when power generation exceeds domestic demand.
The electricity will be sold in the Indian market through Tata Power Trading Company Limited via India's power exchange, according to NEA board member Anshukiran Shahi.
Surplus electricity during the rainy season
Shahi said the decision was made to sell reserve electricity generated in excess of the needs of domestic customers during the rainy months. The planned sale will allow the NEA to send 86 MW of that surplus to the Indian electricity market.
