Nepal must develop its competitive capacity to benefit from the new economic structure created by the European Union-India free trade agreement, Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Deepak Kumar Sah said.
Speaking at a discussion programme in Kathmandu on Thursday, Sah urged Nepal to focus on competitiveness rather than protectionist policies. The programme, held on October 8, 2026, examined the agreement's impact on Nepal's major economic sectors.
Nepal urged to strengthen export capacity
Sah said building competitive capacity would be important for Nepal as the EU-India free trade agreement reshapes the economic environment. His remarks highlighted the need for Nepal to improve its ability to compete in export markets rather than depend on protective measures.
Discussion examines trade agreement's impact
The European Economic Chamber Nepal organised the programme, titled “Impact of the European Union-India Free Trade Agreement on Nepal's Major Economic Sectors.” Participants discussed the agreement's potential implications for Nepal's key economic sectors.
