Malaysia Considers Raising Minimum Wage to 2,000 Ringgit

Malaysia has moved forward with discussions on raising the monthly minimum wage from 1,700 ringgit to 2,000 ringgit. The government is expected to make a decision on the proposal through the upcoming 2027 budget.

If implemented, the increase would also benefit Nepali workers employed in Malaysia.

Proposed minimum wage increase

The proposal would raise the monthly minimum wage by 300 ringgit, from the current rate of 1,700 ringgit to 2,000 ringgit. The plan remains under discussion, and its implementation has not been confirmed.

Decision expected through 2027 budget

The government is expected to address the proposal as part of the 2027 budget process. Nepali workers in Malaysia could also benefit if the higher minimum wage is approved.
