Kaligandaki Bridge Linking Ghiring and Dedhgaun Reopens After 18 Days

The concrete bridge over the Kaligandaki River connecting Ghiring in Tanahun district with Dedhgaun in Baudikali, Nawalpur district, resumed operation after 18 days, following the restoration of access roads on both sides. Flooding on Ashoj 11 had swept away the approaches to the bridge, leaving the crossing inaccessible until temporary and restored road links were put in place.

Flood damage cut off both approaches

The bridge links Ghiring and Dedhgaun across the Kaligandaki River, but the flood damage affected the roads leading to it rather than the approaches remaining usable. Both access roads were washed away on Ashoj 11, preventing people from reaching the crossing from either side. The bridge was therefore unable to operate as a usable connection between the two locations, even though the disruption described was to its approaches.

The interruption lasted 18 days. The reported sequence shows that reopening depended on restoring road access on both banks: work on one side alone could not make the bridge reachable from both directions. The bridge has now resumed operation after access was restored in Tanahun and a temporary route was constructed on the Nawalpur side.

Temporary road enabled access from Nawalpur

A temporary access road on the Nawalpur side was built last week, providing a way to reach the bridge from Dedhgaun in Baudikali. That work addressed one of the two damaged approaches, but the crossing remained dependent on repairs to the Tanahun-side route as well.

The Tanahun approach has now been restored, completing the connection needed for the bridge to reopen. With access available from both sides, the concrete structure can again serve as a crossing between Ghiring and Dedhgaun. The reopening follows a phased recovery: a temporary road was established on the Nawalpur side first, and restoration of the Tanahun approach followed.

Bridge resumes its connecting role

The bridge’s operation is significant because it links communities in two districts separated by the Kaligandaki River. Its availability depends not only on the bridge itself, but also on the roads that connect it to each side. In this case, flooding took out both approaches, and restoring those routes was necessary before the bridge could be used again.

The 18-day interruption illustrates how damage to access roads can disrupt a crossing even when the bridge is the central link between places. The temporary road on the Nawalpur side helped re-establish access there, while the restoration in Tanahun completed the route to the bridge from the other bank. The result is the resumption of the connection between Ghiring and Dedhgaun.

The bridge has now reopened following the flood-related disruption, with the Nawalpur-side temporary access road and the restored Tanahun-side approach enabling people to reach the crossing again. The reported information confirms the reopening and the sequence of access-road work; it does not specify the longer-term condition or planned replacement of the temporary road. For now, the completed restoration of the two approaches has allowed the Kaligandaki crossing to return to operation after 18 days.
