India has proposed Sudhakar Dalela as its next ambassador to Nepal, following the completion of Naveen Srivastava’s tenure in Kathmandu. Dalela is a 1993-batch Indian Foreign Service officer and holds the rank of secretary.
The nomination places an experienced diplomat in line for the post, which became vacant after Srivastava’s departure. It also signals the importance New Delhi attaches to its relationship with Kathmandu.
Sudhakar Dalela’s diplomatic career
Dalela began his diplomatic career in Tel Aviv and has served at Indian missions in Brasilia, Chicago, Dhaka, Geneva and Washington, D.C.
From 2022 to 2025, he served as India’s ambassador to Bhutan. His proposed posting to Nepal would follow that assignment.
