Dashain, Nepal’s national festival, began today with Ghatasthapana, the first day of Shardiya Navaratri. In the Mithila region, including Mahottari, the festival is celebrated as Dashahara, with festive activity increasing in villages and cities alike.
Devotional songs dedicated to Goddess Durga are being sung at Shakti Peeths, idol-making sites and in households. Durga melas are being held at 40 locations across the region.
