Bharatpur Underground Electrification Project Reaches 95 Percent Completion

Bharatpur’s underground electrification project has reached 95 percent completion, with 460 customers in the metropolitan city already receiving electricity through underground lines. Connections have been made along Bypass Road, from Sahidchowk to Pulchowk, and in the area in front of Chitwan Medical College, while crews continue connecting customers at a reported pace of around 13 meters of line per day.

460 customers connected through underground lines

The work is part of the underground electrification project in the urban area of Bharatpur Metropolitan City. The 460 customers supplied through the underground network mark the number connected so far; the project’s remaining work is still underway, and connections are continuing.

The reported coverage includes three key stretches: Bypass Road, the route between Sahidchowk and Pulchowk, and the area in front of Chitwan Medical College. These locations indicate where electricity is currently being supplied through the underground lines. The available project update does not give a separate customer count for each stretch.

The work is being carried out under the Nepal Electricity Authority’s Pokhara-Bharatpur Distribution System Strengthening Project. Anand Subedi, chief engineer of the project, said that 95 percent of the work had been completed. The figure describes the overall project progress, while the ongoing customer connections show that the remaining activity has not yet concluded.

Connections continue as work advances

Subedi said line connections were progressing at around 13 meters daily. The pace is a reported measure of the continuing connection work, alongside the update that 460 customers have already received electricity through the underground system. The project has not yet been described as fully complete.

The distinction between overall completion and customer connections is important to the status update. Although the project is at 95 percent completion, additional connections are still being made in the covered urban areas. The reported figures therefore describe a project nearing completion, with both the broader work and connections to customers continuing.

Progress across Bharatpur’s urban area

The update identifies the project’s coverage through named roads and locations rather than a citywide connection total. It confirms service through underground lines for customers in the listed areas, but does not specify how many customers remain to be connected, how many meters of work are left, or when the project is expected to finish.

For residents and businesses in the areas covered, the current milestone is that 460 customers are receiving electricity through the underground network. The Nepal Electricity Authority project team continues to make connections as the work advances. With 95 percent of the work reported complete, the next phase will involve completing the outstanding work and continuing the connections that are still in progress.
