All 7-Eleven convenience stores in India closed in September, with Japanese parent company Seven & i Holdings confirming the closures on Tuesday. Local media reported that growing competition in the Indian retail market was cited as the reason for the exit.
The chain's 31 stores in Mumbai and Pune were shut by master franchisee Reliance Retail from September 30.
7-Eleven's India exit
The closures bring 7-Eleven's store operations in India to an end. The affected outlets were located in two major cities:
- Mumbai
- Pune
Seven & i Holdings confirmed the closures after the stores had shut. The company was reported to have pointed to intensifying competition in India's retail market.
