PM Balendra Shah Urges Graduating Police Inspectors to Uphold Ethics and Integrity

Prime Minister Balendra Shah on Sunday urged graduating police inspectors to make morality, dedication and honesty the foundation of their professional conduct, addressing the 184th batch of Basic Police Inspector Training at the National Police Academy in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu. He told the graduates to fully internalise what they had learned during training and apply it in practice, and cautioned them against compromising on ethics and dedication. The ceremony was his first appearance at a police programme since becoming prime minister.

Ethics as the basis of professional success

Shah described morality, dedication and honesty as the first requirements for professional success. His message to the new inspectors placed ethical conduct not as an optional quality, but as a starting point for their work. He asked the graduates to carry the lessons of their training into their professional lives and to maintain their commitment to those principles.

The prime minister’s remarks focused on the connection between what the inspectors learned during training and how they would conduct themselves after graduation. He instructed them to absorb the training fully and put it into practice, making clear that the value of their preparation depended on its application. His appeal was directed to the graduating officers as they completed the Basic Police Inspector Training programme.

Shah also told the inspectors not to compromise on morality and dedication. The instruction reinforced his emphasis on honesty as a professional requirement, alongside commitment to their work. Taken together, his remarks set out a clear standard for the graduates: professional success should be grounded in ethical behaviour and sustained dedication.

First appearance at a police programme as prime minister

The graduation ceremony marked Shah’s first appearance at a police programme since he became prime minister. His address brought him before a group of newly trained inspectors at the National Police Academy, where he delivered a message centred on integrity and the practical use of training.

The occasion was specifically the graduation ceremony for the 184th batch of Basic Police Inspector Training. Shah used the event to address the graduates directly, urging them to treat their training as guidance to be acted upon and to maintain the values he identified as essential to professional success. The remarks did not announce a new programme or policy; they focused on the expectations he set for the inspectors.

A call to apply training in practice

The prime minister’s instruction linked professional preparation with personal standards. He asked the graduates not only to retain what they had learned, but to translate it into conduct. His warning against compromise on morality and dedication underscored that, in his view, training and ethics must go together.

For the graduating inspectors, the central message was to begin their professional work with honesty, commitment and moral discipline. Shah’s address at the academy placed those qualities at the heart of the standard he expects them to uphold. By making this his first appearance at a police programme since taking office, he delivered that message directly to a new batch of inspectors at the close of their basic training.
