Delhi Police detained dozens of opposition leaders and hundreds of protesters in New Delhi on Saturday during a demonstration demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The protest was directed against the Election Commission and the chief election commissioner. Those detained included West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal.
Opposition leaders detained
Former Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Trinamool Congress leaders Derek O’Brien and Dola Sen were also among those held, according to reports.
The demonstration was underway in the Indian capital when police detained the protesters and opposition leaders.
