Kathmandu, Nepal: The Nepal Police have issued a public warning urging people across the country not to explode firecrackers or organise fireworks displays during the Tihar festival, cautioning that such explosive materials can cause serious and sometimes irreversible accidents. The advisory was circulated ahead of the five-day festival of lights, a period when firecracker use traditionally rises sharply in homes, streets and public spaces, and when hospitals and security agencies routinely report a spike in burn injuries, fire incidents and noise-related complaints. According to the police, celebrating the festival responsibly without firecrackers is the safest way for families to protect their loved ones, their property and the environment.
