Bada Dashain, Nepal's biggest festival, began across the country on Sunday with Ghatasthapana, the ritual establishment of the sacred pot. The Nepal Panchang Judging Development Committee said the auspicious time for the ceremony was 11:47 am.
On the first day of the 15-day festival, people place a diyo, kalash and Ganesh in their prayer rooms and Dashain houses, and sow jamara. Bada Dashain runs from Ashwin Shukla Pratipada to Purnima.
Nine days of Navadurga worship
The festival continues with special worship of Navadurga over the following nine days.
