Palpa district has begun delivering passports to citizens’ homes through the district postal office, allowing recipients to avoid travelling to the district headquarters in Tansen to collect their documents. The service followed an agreement between the District Administration Office and the Postal Office last Baisakh, postal office chief Arjun Chaudhary said. Five people have received passports at home so far, including residents of Mathagadhi, Rambha, Rainadevi Chhahara and Tansen.
Passport delivery reaches residents across Palpa
The first reported deliveries show the service reaching people in several parts of the district. Two recipients were from Mathagadhi Rural Municipality, while one each came from Rambha Rural Municipality, Rainadevi Chhahara Rural Municipality and Tansen, information officer Tanka Bhandari said. The figures indicate that the arrangement is being used beyond the district headquarters, although the number of deliveries remains limited so far.
Among those to receive a passport at home was Sumit Barhaghare of Rambha Rural Municipality. Postal staff delivered his document to his residence, providing a practical example of how the service works for recipients living away from Tansen. Instead of making the journey to the headquarters to collect the passport, Barhaghare received it from postal workers at home.
The service changes the final step of obtaining a passport for people whose documents are ready for collection. Under the arrangement, the postal office handles delivery to the recipient’s home. The reported information does not detail how residents apply for passports or whether other parts of the application process have changed; the stated benefit is that recipients no longer need to travel to Tansen solely to collect their passports.
Agreement between district offices
The home-delivery arrangement began after the District Administration Office and the Postal Office reached an agreement last Baisakh. Chaudhary said the agreement made it possible for the postal office to deliver passports to citizens. The service thus brings two district offices together to handle the handover of documents beyond the headquarters.
The arrangement is particularly relevant to recipients living in rural municipalities away from Tansen. For them, delivery can remove the need for a separate trip to the district headquarters to collect a passport. The five reported recipients include people from Mathagadhi, Rambha and Rainadevi Chhahara, as well as Tansen, showing that deliveries have taken place in both rural municipalities and the headquarters area.
Five recipients reported so far
The number of people who have received passports at home stands at five, according to Bhandari. The total includes two people from Mathagadhi and one person each from Rambha, Rainadevi Chhahara and Tansen. Officials did not provide further details about when each delivery took place, how residents request home delivery or whether a fee applies.
For now, the reported cases establish that passport delivery through the postal office is operating in Palpa. Barhaghare’s delivery in Rambha is one example of a resident receiving the document at home, while the other recipients show that the service has also reached three additional localities. The initiative offers passport recipients an alternative to travelling to Tansen for collection, based on the agreement between the district administration and postal offices.
