Dinesh Thakali, chief executive officer of Kamana Sewa Bikas Bank, has been unanimously elected chair of the Development Bankers Association Nepal (DBAN) at the association’s 21st annual general assembly in Kathmandu on Friday. The assembly also elected a nine-member working committee for a two-year term and approved DBAN’s annual report for fiscal year 2082/83.

New leadership for a two-year term

Thakali’s unanimous election places him at the head of the association for the committee’s two-year term. His appointment was made at the annual gathering, where members also selected the other office-bearers and committee members. The meeting brought together the association’s annual leadership selection and its review of the report for the fiscal year.

Madhav Prasad Upadhyay, chief executive officer of Garima Bikas Bank, was chosen as vice-chair. Kapil of Jyoti Bikas Bank was elected secretary. The available announcement identified the two officials by those positions and affiliations; it did not provide further details about the remaining members of the nine-person working committee.

The appointments mean the new committee will include leaders from Kamana Sewa Bikas Bank, Garima Bikas Bank and Jyoti Bikas Bank in its senior posts. Thakali will serve as chair, Upadhyay as vice-chair and Kapil as secretary, alongside the other members elected at the assembly. The committee’s term is two years.

Annual assembly approves report

Alongside the election, the 21st annual general assembly approved the association’s annual report for fiscal year 2082/83. The approval was one of the decisions recorded at the Friday meeting in Kathmandu. No further detail about the report’s contents or the discussions held during the assembly was provided in the announcement.

The annual general assembly therefore concluded with both a leadership decision and approval of the association’s fiscal-year report. Thakali’s unanimous selection was the central outcome, while the selection of a vice-chair, secretary and a nine-member working committee established the association’s leadership structure for the next two years.

Association leadership

Thakali’s role as CEO of Kamana Sewa Bikas Bank and his new position as DBAN chair connect his leadership of the bank with the association’s work representing development bankers. The assembly’s selection of senior officials from three banks also establishes the named office-bearers who will serve with the wider committee during the new term.

The meeting did not announce additional policy decisions or describe specific priorities for the incoming committee. Its reported outcomes were the unanimous election of Thakali, the selection of Upadhyay as vice-chair and Kapil as secretary, the election of the nine-member working committee for two years, and approval of the annual report for fiscal year 2082/83. Thakali now takes over the association’s chairmanship following the decision at its 21st annual general assembly in Kathmandu.
